joel tammik

Joel Tammik is one of the key figures of the Estonian electronica scene. He started out as a musician in 1997 by joining the jungle- drum and bass collective Lu:k. First as a bass guitar player, later also as co-writer. In 1999 Joel and LU:K member Indrek started the Myrakaru project which was more „IDM- melodic electronica" based, leading to the 2004 release of an album under the british Expanding Records label. By that time, however, Myrakaru had virtually ceased to exist.

Joel concentrated entirely on his solo project which had been started a couple of years earlier and initially bore the name of Rajaleidja (later on as Joel Tammik). Departing from the idm direction of Myrakaru, he took deeper interest in the atmospheric world of electronic dub from Basic Channel to Vladislav Delay. Initially he worked on the more rhythmical side of the style, later shifting towards a more abstract and profound approach. Playfulness, perpetual motion and neglecting the loop-centredness of computer music became the key features. Followed releases under belgium U-cover , estonian Ulmeplaadid and british Cactus Island label.

At the present day Joel is continuing to produce different kind of deep electronic music. As Joel Tammik more abstract kind of „jazzdubambientelectronica" sound and as OTK1 (under estonian label Nemos music) more breakbeat and drum and bass kind of heavily atmospheric creations, influenced by the vintage analog sound and equipment.
